No. The TPASS has no restrictions based on nationality. Anyone holding an eligible electronic card may purchase a TPASS.

Because Senior, Concession, and other special cards already receive statutory public transport fare discounts, TPASS plans are not sold for these card types.

  1. Your electronic card must have sufficient stored value, or, if using a co-branded credit card, auto top-up must be enabled. (For example, to purchase a NT$999 Taichung–Changhua–Nantou–Miaoli TPASS, your card balance must be at least NT$999.)
  2. To receive the Taichung Citizen Discount, you must first complete the Taichung Citizen card binding procedure.
  3. If your current regional TPASS has not yet expired, you may renew it with the same electronic card within 10 days before the expiration date. The renewed TPASS will take effect the day after the previous one expires and does not require reactivation.
  4. Each electronic card can only hold one TPASS plan at a time, and a new TPASS from another region or system cannot be purchased until the current one expires. For example, if your card already has an active Northern Taiwan (Taipei–New Taipei–Keelung–Taoyuan) TPASS, you cannot purchase the Taichung City TPASS, Changhua County TPASS, Nantou County TPASS, or the Taichung–Changhua–Nantou–Miaoli TPASS.

Visit the Taichung Citizen Exclusive Website, which provides details on card binding procedures, locations, service hours, and related information.

Eligibility is the same as that for the existing Taichung Citizen Exclusive Discount Program and includes citizens registered in Taichung City, foreign spouses of Taichung citizens, and students who are not registered in Taichung but are studying at any educational institution within Taichung City, from elementary through tertiary level.

  • One full-fare electronic card.
  • To receive the Taichung Citizen Discount price, the electronic card must be bound through the Taichung Citizen card binding procedure.
  • The electronic card must have sufficient stored value.
  • If you intend to use public bicycles, please register your bound electronic card as a member on the respective YouBike or Moovo system.

No. Each TPASS is valid for 30 days from the first day of use. You cannot purchase or renew for more than one month at a time. Renewal is only available within 10 days before the current TPASS expires.

If your current regional TPASS has not yet expired, you may renew it within 10 days before the expiration date using the same electronic card. The renewed TPASS will take effect the day after the previous one expires and does not require reactivation.

Supported electronic cards include:

  1. EasyCard: standard physical EasyCard, chip-based EasyCard, and SuperCard.
  2. iPASS
  3. icash: This card type cannot currently be used with Smile Public Bicycles in Taichung or Miaoli (not yet available as of July 1).
